Our Role
The role of the AAMA is essentially to generate
greater public awareness of maritime affairs. It is not oriented to
single industries or interests but provides a focal point for all those
with an interest in maritime affairs, especially those people in business,
tertiary institutions, the marine professions and the public service
who are concerned with any aspect of Australia's maritime affairs.
Specifically it undertakes to:
disseminate information at all levels within the community in order
to increase understanding of maritime affairs;
develop the educational and intellectual framework necessary to provide
a national perspective of maritime affairs.
promote and facilitate existing research into maritime affairs and,
as appropriate, undertake research or consultancy work in marine fields
either within Australia or overseas;
complement existing research and development by promoting contact between
disciplines that impinge upon maritime affairs and between relevant industry,
government, academic and private agencies concerned with maritime affairs;
provide a point of contact for discussions, talks and information exchange
and visits with relevant bodies whether local or overseas, concerned with
maritime affairs;
establish an information centre and specialist library facilities in
the area of maritime affairs.
